Bentleys are all about effortless performance, library-spec serenity and eye-rolling comfort like someone’s put horse tranquilisers in the pick n’ mix again. In other words: it’s absolutely bang on for the electric car treatment. Which is where the EXP Speed 12 6e is rapidly heading. Sexy (oh yeah... 6e... clever) isn’t it? It’s also a massive posh tease, being a toe-in-the-water concept car. A Chesterfield interior

The 6e might be a racier kind of Bentley, but the interior still absolutely kills it with trad Bentley craftmanship: there’s lavish ‘cricket-ball’ leather like you’re driving a Chesterfield sofa, a steering wheel lifted straight from Knight Rider but hand-stitched by a man who brings his own fork to work to gauge the spacing (true), plus gorgeous digital dials and a long sliver of a portrait-oriented screen that runs up the centre console. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Bentley has plenty of form with drop-tops, but not with a smaller two-seat sports car, so the 6e rocks a more dynamic, younger and less tweedy vibe. If it did make production it’d put Bentley right into an Aston Vantage, Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-type fight, and all without the carbon guilt-trip. In fact, the Bentley would share bits you can’t see with electric Porsches – and the Taycan drives brilliantly.
