Volkswagen has teleported design to the next level with the ID.4. Swoon over the LED headlights and aero-optimised design, chill out in the mega-airy cabin, and check out surprise neat touches like pedals with cheeky play and pause logos.

Choose from 10 (or the optional 30) ambient light settings for the ID.Light strip. Sitting just beneath the windscreen it pulsates for different driving situations, as well as lighting up the dash, phone compartment and doors. Super zen.

The ID.4 is VW’s first fully electric SUV. Not only is driving it good for the environment, but buying it is too. Produced with a carbon-neutral balance, green electricity is used during battery production to offset any other emissions.

Baby got back
Beating the Mercedes E Class for boot space, the ID.4 enjoys 534litres of it. But if you fold down the back seats, there is a whopping 1,575 litres. You can also fill it easily with the hands-free boot opening sensor.

The ID.4 may be an SUV, but bigger doesn’t necessarily mean slower. Its dynamic exterior is sculptured by nature (apparently), producing a very efficient and aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.28.
Headlights
Blink and you'll miss it
The ID.4’s interactive IQ Light LED matrix headlights swivel their lens modules as you approach and unlock the car, giving you a little welcoming wink as you do so. Not gonna lie, we love the attention.

Built on the same MEB (modular electric drive matrix) as the VW ID.3, space is in favour of passenger over tech. Basically, there’s a ton more leg and head room up front and in the back due to the placement of the battery.
Sunroof
(Don’t) break the glass ceiling
Spanning the entire width of the ID.4’s roof, the glass sunroof fills the car with light. You can even add the open of it tilting and opening. Even cooler, say “Hello ID, show me the stars” and watch as the sun blind magically recoils.
Tail light
X marks the spot
The VW ID.4 has good a seriously good looking booty. The 3D LED tail light cluster not only lights up the dynamic turn signals (moving from inside out), but they also glow in the shape of an X when braking.
Touchscreen
Buttons be gone
Can’t put your finger on what’s missing? Put your finger literally on the dashboard and you’ll realise it is devoid of buttons. Everything is controlled via the 10” touchscreen, or even by voice recognition.

The IQ Light LED matrix headlights cleverly emit a controlled and continuous beam of light to illuminate the road ahead. Standard headlights. But rather cleverly, they automatically adjust so they don’t blind oncoming traffic. Nice.

With VW’s We Connect service, their Discover Pro navigation system shows real-time traffic data, nearby charging stations (and if they’re occupied), and can even send this data direct to your phone so you can always be in the know.
